Our (AHRC+EPSRC-funded) research into metadesign started in 2005 at Goldsmiths, University of London. It grew out of our 'Attainable Utopias' project (2000-2008). We explored the idea of replacing the 'sustainability' mindset with a quest for synergies. This is because synergies are a free gift that we get by combining several existing resources to produce a new one (e.g. symbiosis in nature does this). Synergy is underrated and extremely elusive because it permeates all known boundaries of description....including ecology/economy.
