The Stroud Pound (SP) was launched in September 2009. It appears in four denominations (£1, £2, £5, £10). Every SP in circulation is backed by £1 sterling in the bank. It is organised through a cooperative with three membership categories - individuals, traders and not-for-profits. Anyone can spend or receive SPs. Members purchasing SPs from an Exchange Point are allocated 3% of their purchase to a nominated local charity. Trading members may also redeem their SPs for sterling. Notes lose 3% of their value every six months to stimulate circulation. More information at www.stroudpound.org.uk
